As you have probably read at our front page we have a small cattery in the small farm-land town of Assendelft in the Netherlands. From time to time we have sweet healthy and naughty kittens raised in our living room with much love and attention.
When we started breeding in 2004 our cattery name was 'Miu-Nefer' ('the perfect cat' in ancient Egyptian), but when we switched to the FIFE, that name was unfortunately already taken by another cattery and we were forced to change our cattery name. And so we picked 'Aby Forest'! That is why our first litters don't have the name 'Aby Forest' in their pedigrees.
We are crazy about the breed and our goal is to breed beautiful, elegant but most of all healthy ruddy and sorrel Abyssinians to ensure the future of the breed.
Our major priorities when breeding are:
1. Health
The health of our cats and kittens is what's most important to us. We guard this by a thorough and selective partner choice for our matings. We always try to look for 'out cross' lines (bloodlines that aren't related or very far related) . And by doing every possible health test that could detect genetic defects or illnesses. We only breed with completely healthy animals without any known genetic defects! Al our cats are tested for FIV/FeLV, PL, PRA & PK-Def. This all of course next to the yearly vaccinations and health checkup.
2. Personality
Next to a healthy cat we think that Personality is very important. A cat can be absolutely gorgeous but when he's shy, distant or even aggressive nobody will be happy. Looks will therefore never go over personality for us!
3. Looks
Of course the eye wants something also! All our animals are excellent, show winning specimens and are perfect according to the breed standard. Like every breeder we have our own views on how an Aby should look and act and we try to get as close to that ideal as we can.
As a cattery we pursue an active import policy to get fresh blood lines into the Netherlands. This way we hope to do our bit to keep the Aby gene pool in Holland healthy.
Our Aby's roam freely round our entire home and fenced-off garden. The stay with us their entire lives even when they retire. We only replace cats on rare exceptions and only when this is best for the cat!
All our pets are fed thru the Raw Feeding Principle!
We use the economical, environmentally friendly, hygienically and most of all smell free Pee Wee litter box system from Sweden!
